Cherry Blossum Photos - Washington DC
(2004)

The weather in Washington D.C. is as unpredictable as anywhere else. If you are walking from a hotel or metro to view the Cherry Blossoms, be prepared. Hopefully it will be a sunny, clear day in the city. We are preparing a Cherry Blossom Festival Tips to help out with the basics.

This movie loop shows a very strong (and cold!) wind blowing on the Tidal Basin, with the Jefferson Memorial in the background. The Japanese Cherry tree blossoms take the wind well, and don't blow off. About 1 week later, the blossoms are all falling on their own, with no wind, because their season is over.

A photograph (below) taken at the same time as the movie shows a wave spraying over the basin-side walkway. Click on the photo for a larger image - use as a free desktop wallpaper of the Capitol City!
